Students are allowed to transfer in 6 credit hours from another institution. The courses must have been taken for graduate credit. Your advisor will be the person to approve a transfer course, so you must provide him or her with a copy of your transcript and a course description. There is a form your advisor will complete and send to the Graduate School; they may do this while you are in the middle of your program of study or they may wait until the end.
As a student seeking a master's degree, you have 6 years to complete your coursework. The courses you wish to transfer in must be taken during this time frame, so for example, if you start your program in the fall of 2007 you have until the fall of 2013 to finish. If you took the courses you want to transfer in during the fall of 2006, you would have until the fall of 2012 to complete your coursework.
In addition, the grade for transfer courses must be an "A" or a "B".
More criteria are listed in the Graduate Student Handbook under Academic Degree Requirements.
